Little Ceylon Turns One

Senal quit his safe 9–5 to build a restaurant — with no investors, no local network, and no plan B.

One year ago, my brother Senal quit his safe 9–5 to build a restaurant — with no investors, no local network, and no plan B.

On October 31st, 2024, Little Ceylon opened its doors in Nugegoda, Sri Lanka — built from late-night planning, recipe testing, and quiet persistence.

And very quickly, reality hit — building a dream isn’t romantic.

It’s exhausting, unfiltered, and demands more grit than motivation.

What most people don’t see:

⚠️ Our first endorsement (Nov 19) — a high we weren’t ready for.
⚠️ Our first false 1/5 review (Dec 3) — a gut punch from someone we once called a friend.
⚠️ Fake reviews from competitors before we even found our rhythm.
⚠️ Connections who went silent when support actually mattered.
⚠️ Nights of doubt, financial pressure, and moments where quitting felt easier.

But we stayed.

Not because it was easy but because it was ours.

Three siblings.

One risk.

Zero shortcuts.

🔹Senal — the vision and the heart of the restaurant.
🔹Samoda — the systems, people, and service.
🔹Me — every visual: branding, menu boards, flyers, website, social media.

And of course…
🐾 Nipuni, our family dog (she is actually our neighbor’s dog, but she acts like the unofficial child + food tester — a loyal fan of our cooked chicken).

What kept us going wasn’t hype — it was discipline, honest conversations, and respecting each other’s strengths, even when things got uncomfortable.

Today, Little Ceylon turns one.

Three siblings who grew up in Australia chose to start from scratch in Sri Lanka — and persevered without investors, guarantees, or fallbacks.
🛑 No shortcuts.
🛑 No gimmicks.
✅ Just resilience, family, and food made with intent.

Thank you to everyone who stood by us — friends, customers, and the quiet supporters who cheered us on from afar.

You’re the reason we’re still here.

This journey reminded us that a business isn’t built by one person — it’s built by a community that believes, supports, and shows up. 🫂

On behalf of Little Ceylon, thank you for being part of our journey to make five star quality food accessible to everyone.

Kind regards,

Donita
